What Happens Before Pet Surgery?

Our veterinarians perform a pre-anesthetic evaluation on the day of surgery. This evaluation includes blood work to ensure your animal companion is healthy enough physical condition to undergo anesthesia. We will place an intravenous (IV) catheter in your pet’s front or rear limb for the administration of fluids and medications during the procedure. Our veterinarians will administer pain medications during surgery.

What Happens After Pet Surgery?

Depending on the type of surgery, your dog or cat may stay at our facility at least one night.

Your pet may have external sutures that you can see and internal sutures that you cannot see. Our veterinary staff will teach you how to care for these sutures.

Depending on the type of surgery and the amount of time that has passed since the procedure, your pet may be sleepy when it first arrives back home. Allow your cat or dog to sleep in a warm, quiet location.
