The Importance of Puppy Shots
At Hancock Park Veterinary Clinic, we love to meet new pets in your family, be they dogs or puppies. Let us remind you how important it is when you get a new pet to make sure that dog or puppy shots are up to date. Learn more about how our Los Angeles Animal Hospital staff can help you keep your pet healthy using shots.
The Importance of Dog Shots
Just as they do for humans, vaccinations protect a pet from getting contagious diseases. Some of these diseases are painful yet treatable, yet others -- including rabies -- are fatal to your pet.
Keeping your pet up to date with dog shots is as easy as coming to see our veterinarian for regular checkups and administering needed vaccinations upon our recommendations. We keep track of when your dog is due for dog shots and will let you know. We may send reminders via email, mail, or telephone since it is very important that you keep your pet up to date.
Dangers Of Not Vaccinating
What would happen if you did not keep your dog shots up to date? Your pet would lose the immunity offered by the vaccine and be at risk of getting rabies, canine distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, or parainfluenza. If you rely on groomers or pet sitters and your kennel cough vaccine expires, you may be unable to use these services until you update the shot.
Not only is your pet at risk of getting sick without an updated vaccine but he or she could pass a disease on to other pets, creating an epidemic in your community that is entirely preventable.
Most dogs do not even feel their shots. The process is quick, safe, and the right thing to do to protect your pet, your family, and your community. If you have any questions about puppy shots, we are happy to answer them during a routine wellness exam.
