Dental Care

We provide the pets of Hancock Park and the surrounding communities with a range of pet dental services to remove plaque, fight gum disease and more. While dental care provides the obvious benefits of maintaining healthy teeth and gums, we can also help your pet avoid uncomfortable tooth aches, tooth loss and bad breath. Dental disease can also cause undue oral pain and stress on internal organs, therefore, it is very important to get routine dental cleanings.

At Hancock Park Veterinary Clinic, we offer a range of pet dental care services, including:

  • Dental Examinations: These examinations play a crucial role in identifying dental disease and other potential issues affecting your pet's oral health. Following the dental examination, we will provide recommendations for further care based on our findings.
  • Dental Cleaning: Our pet teeth cleaning services effectively remove plaque from your pet's teeth. After plaque removal, we meticulously polish the enamel, preventing food from adhering to it. We advise scheduling your pet's teeth cleaning at least once a year to maintain optimal oral health.
  • Dental radiographs: What we can see above the gumline is only part of the picture. For full oral health evaluations, it is very important to take radiographs to see if there is disease below the gumline.
  • Tooth Extractions: In cases of infected or diseased teeth, we may recommend tooth extractions to prevent the spread of infection and alleviate your pet's pain. While extractions are a last resort, we collaborate with pet owners to emphasize preventative care and avoid the need for extractions whenever possible.
  • Tooth Bonding: Enamel defects can occur in pets' teeth. Our tooth bonding services are designed to safeguard pet teeth from enamel defects, ensuring their long-term oral well-being.

Clean Your Pet’s Teeth at Home

Pet owners play an important role in their pet’s dental hygiene. There are many things that you can do at home to help your pet maintain healthy teeth and gums. For example:

  • Tooth brushing: We recommend brushing your pet’s teeth every night. Don’t forget that pets need special toothpaste and a pet toothbrush. Using the right tools and cleaning your pet’s teeth on a regular basis is the best tool we have to help protect your pet from dental disease.
  • Water additives: Water additives are like mouthwash for pets. Additives are put in your pet’s water to help break down plaque and freshen your pet’s breath.
  • Dental chews: Dental chews are treats that may help fight plaque as your pet chews.
  • Tooth-cleaning chew toys: Some chew toys are designed to be good for your pet’s teeth and gums. As your pet chews the toy, your pet’s teeth get cleaner.
